Penybont's Cymru Premier campaign has been dealt a blow as the club has been docked three points for fielding an ineligible player. Rhys Griffiths' outfit played Eliot Richards in a fixture against Aberystwyth Town on 27 October while he was ineligible. The Football Association of Wales committee charged the club with a breach of JD Cymru Premier Rule 14.1. Penybont have been fined £500, with £250 suspended until the end of the 2024-25 season. The club has until 17:00 GMT on 15 January to challenge the outcome. The points deduction means Penybont is now out of the running to secure a Championship conference spot, trailing sixth-placed Caernarfon Town by five points. The club is considering an independent appeal. Penybont sits eighth in the Cymru Premier table. The disciplinary sub-committee found the charge to be proven. Penybont's statement expressed disappointment with the decision, citing an administrative oversight that afforded no sporting advantage. The club will play Connah's Quay prior to the division split. Bottom club Pontypridd United was docked six points in December for player contract breaches. Penybont's focus will now shift to the remaining games, starting with the match against Connah's Quay.
