Penybont, the Welsh football club, qualified for Europe after finishing second in last season's Cymru Premier, and were set to play Lithuania's Kauno Žalgiris on Thursday, July 7, in the first qualifying round first leg. However, their preparations were disrupted when their kit and boots were not loaded onto their flight out of London. The club flew out of London City airport with LOT Polish Airlines on Tuesday, July 8, but once they touched down in Vilnius, they found that most of their bags were missing. Penybont's spokesperson said that among their lost luggage was the team's playing kit and boots. The club had to quickly go shopping for replacement kit and boots ahead of training and the match. The missing belongings arrived in the early hours of Thursday ahead of the match in the evening. Penybont's travel agent is also pursuing compensation on their behalf. Despite the disruption, the team and staff have remained in good spirits and are thoroughly looking forward to the game. The second leg will be played at Cardiff International Sports Stadium on July 17, after which the winners will face Iceland's Valur club or Estonian team Flora Tallinn in the second qualifying round. This is Penybont's second time in the Conference League after making their debut in the competition in 2023. The team shared a photo of the squad training at Central Stadium of Jonava, over an hour outside of Vilnius, on Wednesday. LOT Polish Airlines confirmed that the bags were left behind in London due to adverse weather conditions and weight limitations at London City airport. The airline spokesperson said that the decision was made in strict accordance with their highest safety standards. The delayed baggage was delivered to the affected passengers, and those who were unable to board the original flight were properly assisted and rebooked on the next available service. Penybont's spokesperson added that the team is now focused on the match and is ready to go. And so, the team is looking forward to the game, despite the initial setback. But the team is confident that they can overcome this disaster and win the match. So, the team is ready to face Kauno Žalgiris and make their mark in the Conference League.
