Ellis Cann's brace secured a vital 3-1 win for Penybont over Barry Town on Friday night. The result keeps Rhys Griffiths' side firmly in the title hunt, sitting third in the Cymru Premier with 30 points from 13 games.
Jake Lester gave the visitors a shock lead after just 12 minutes, but Cann levelled the score six minutes later. Tom Walker then put Penybont ahead from the penalty spot in the 39th minute before Cann completed his double eight minutes after the restart, sealing the three points. This victory marks a strong response from Penybont, who were looking to bounce back from a recent 2-0 defeat to GAP Connah's Quay in their previous outing.

Substitutions and cards
Both managers made changes in the second half, with Chris Venables replacing the two-goal Cann for Penybont. Barry Town's Dan Barton was shown a yellow card in the 80th minute.
The win strengthens Penybont's position as they now sit just seven points behind leaders The New Saints. Attention now turns to the Welsh Cup, with a trip to face Afan Lido scheduled for Sunday, 18 October. Their next league fixture is away to Cardiff MET on 31 October, where they will aim to continue their form having won three of their last five matches.
Penybont's second goal in the 3-1 win over Barry Town on October 9 came after a VAR intervention, the club confirmed. The referee overturned his original decision to award Barry a free-kick, instead penalising James Lester for a foul on Tom Mehew inside the box. Tom Walker then converted the resulting penalty. The victory, which featured a brace from Ellis Cann, is part of a run of four wins in their last five matches, leaving Penybont third in the Cymru Premier with 30 points.
